Mangalore, August 7: Heavy rains continued to lash most parts of twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Tuesday morning.
On Monday Puttur, Belthangady Bantwal and Sullia taluks bore the brunt of incessant rains.
The Bangalore based Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre issued 12 high-rainfall alerts from 6am up to 10pm. The highest amount of 128.5mm rainfall has been recorded at Belthangady hobli in Belthangady taluk in DK at 8.45pm.
The torrential rains led to Hosamat Bridge leading to Subrahmanya getting submerged and disrupting vehicular traffic on that route.
Ghats cleared
Meanwhile, vehicles were allowed through Charmadi Ghats on National Highway 234 after 3:00 pm on Monday, a day after mudslides had blocked the roads.
Two heavy earth movers were called in to clear the blockage on curve 2 and 3 of the 11-curve Charmadi Ghat stretch.
Locals involved with the operation said the clearing of debris was hindered by rains and the softening of mud in the rest of the hill.
