Kerala minister to inaugurate Kannada learning programme in Mangalore

Mangalore, August 24: Kerala Samajam, Mangalore, will be launching 'Namma Kannada' - a Kannada Learning Programme as part of Onam celebrations this year, said T.K. Rajan, President of Kerala Samajam, Mangalore.

Addressing a press meet here on Friday, he said that the Onam celebrations of 2012 would be held on August 26 at C.V. Nayak Hall, Kadri, from 10.30 a.m. onwards, and Onam Sadya (Onam feast) would be held from 12 p.m. onwards.

There will be a cultural meet and various entertainment programmes on September 1 at Town Hall, Mangalore. The inaugural address will be delivered by K. Jayakumar IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Kerala. U.T. Khader, MLA of Mangalore, M.T. Reju, Deputy Commissioner of Udupi District and A.J. Shetty, Chairman of A.J. Group of Institutions, will be the guests of honour, he said.

The Kannada Learning Programme – 'Namma Kannada' will be inaugurated on September 2 at 5.30 p.m. at the same venue. K.P. Mohanan, Minister for Agriculture, Government of Kerala, will deliver the inaugural address. The Learning Programme will be inaugurated by Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, President of Kannada Sahitya Parishad, Dakshina Kannada, he said.

V.S. Ajith Kumar, Secretary of Kerala Samajam, said that about 100 students had already enrolled for the programme, which would commence from the first week of October. “It is a year-long programme, free of cost for those wishing to learn Kannada in Mangalore. People can enrol for the programme irrespective of their age. The intention behind it is to know how best we can contribute to the society and bridge the language barrier between people,” he said.

The programme will have 3 hours of learning in a week, and classes will be held in the evening at Kerala Samajam School, Old Kent Road, Mangalore. Registrations will be open till September 20, said Karunakaran Balkur, Head of Department of Kannada at Expert P.U. College, who will be the chief instructor for the programme.

K.K. Radhakrishnan, Treasurer of Kerala Samajam, Narayan Karunakaran and V.S. Acchudan were present at the press meet.

Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
