Nominees invited for Global Konkani Music Awards

Mangalore, August 29: Mandd Sobhann has invited nominations for Global Konkani Music Awards, which is scheduled to be distributed at Kalaangann here on December 9.

Eric Ozaro, Gurkaar of Mandd Sobhann addressing a media conference here on Wednesday said that any Konkani vocal music album, including devotional songs, released in 2011, anywhere in the world, in any dialect of Konkani, by anyone belonging to any religious and communal denomination was eligible for consideration.

Nominations should reach the organisers before September 30, he said.

The awards will be in six categories - Best Singer Female, Best Singer Male, Best Music Composer, Best Lyricist, Best Music Arranger and Best Music Album.

The awards will consist of a title, a cash prize of Rs 25,000 each, a trophy and Maan-samman.

Mr Ozario said that an eminent panel of accomplished musicians would select top-3 nominees in each category from applications received, who would be honoured at the award ceremony.

A separate set of judges will select the winners. The final winners will be announced and honoured at the function, he said.

Stany Alvares, President of Mandd Sobhann, Louis J Pinto, Ex-president, Arun Raj Rodrigues, Coordinator and Irene Rebello, Secretary were also present in the press meet.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: The Mangaluru City Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the inaugural ceremony of Karavali Utsava, which will be held at the Karavali Utsava Ground on Saturday.

The festival will be inaugurated at 6:00 pm by Dakshina Kannada District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Cultural and public programmes will be held at the venue every evening and will continue until January 2.

According to City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, parking of vehicles is strictly prohibited on both sides of the road from Lalbagh to Karavali Utsava Ground. Visitors are requested to park their vehicles only at designated parking areas.

To help the public, traffic signboards and parking guidance flex boards have been installed along the routes leading to the venue. The police have urged commuters and visitors to follow these instructions to ensure smooth traffic movement.

•    Gandhinagar Government School (near Press Club) – Two-wheelers and cars
•    Ladyhill Church parking area – Two-wheelers and cars
•    Canara School Ground, Mannagudda – Two-wheelers and cars

•    Scout and Guide Bhavana premises (behind Karavali Utsava Grounds) – Two-wheelers

•    Hat Hill Road – Two-wheelers

The police have appealed to the public to cooperate by following traffic rules and parking guidelines to avoid inconvenience during the festival.
