Fisherman falls off boat, drowns

Malpe, September 3: Owing to the rough sea, a fisherman who had been fishing fell off a boat into the sea and drowned on Friday night, according to a report.

The deceased has been identified as Venkataramana (34) from Bhatkal.

The incident occurred while he had been returning back to Malpe with his companions Santhosh, Janardhan, Buddhuvant and Pandu. On the way, the sea turned rough due to bad weather and the waves caused the boat to rock violently. It was said that Venkataramana lost his footing and fell into the sea, following which he went missing.

According to sources, Venkataramana set sail with his companions from the port of Malpe towards the direction of Honnavar on August 28. The group had been fishing on the boat 'Sea-king' which belonged to Gururaj Kanchan from Kalmadi.

The police said that Venkataramana's dead body was found on Monday morning at around 7 am near mouth-of-estuary at Padukere. A complaint has been registered at Malpe Police Station.

Heading to Karavali Utsava? Check traffic changes and parking rules in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Dec 20: The Mangaluru City Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the inaugural ceremony of Karavali Utsava, which will be held at the Karavali Utsava Ground on Saturday.

The festival will be inaugurated at 6:00 pm by Dakshina Kannada District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Cultural and public programmes will be held at the venue every evening and will continue until January 2.

According to City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, parking of vehicles is strictly prohibited on both sides of the road from Lalbagh to Karavali Utsava Ground. Visitors are requested to park their vehicles only at designated parking areas.

To help the public, traffic signboards and parking guidance flex boards have been installed along the routes leading to the venue. The police have urged commuters and visitors to follow these instructions to ensure smooth traffic movement.
