GP by-polls: BJP MLS's aid held for distributing liquor

Sullia, September 10: Two Bharatiya Janata Party workers were caught red handed while distributing liquor to lure the voters during the Gram Panchayat by-election at Peruvaje in Bellare near here on Sunday.

They have been identified as Kushalappa Peruvaje, the Personal Assistant of Sullia MLA S Angara and Prashanth, a local resident.

Both were caught by Congress workers and handed over to the jurisdictional police for further investigation. Cases were registered against the duo.

Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner NS Channappa Gowda has issued orders banning sale of liquor for 48-hours from 7am on September 8 in view of by-elections to gram panchayats.

The elections were held in Gram Panchayats of Mangalore, Belthangady, Puttur and Sullia taluks in Dakshina Kannada district on Sunday.

By-polls will be held for six gram panchayats in Mangalore taluk (Iruvail, Chelyaru, Adyaru, Harekala, Kotekaru - wards 7 and 8); two in Belthangady (Kashipatna, Kaniyuru GP - Uruvaalu ward); three in Puttur (Golithottu - Konaalu ward, Mundaru - Mundaru two ward, 34-Nekkilady - Nekkilady one ward); and five in Sullia (Amarapadnuru - Amarapadnuru - three ward, Bellare - Peruvaje - two ward, Guthigaaru - Nalkuru - one ward, Kankamajalu - Kanakamajalu - one ward, and Yenmuru - Murulya - two ward).

Counting will be held on September 12.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: The Mangaluru City Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the inaugural ceremony of Karavali Utsava, which will be held at the Karavali Utsava Ground on Saturday.

The festival will be inaugurated at 6:00 pm by Dakshina Kannada District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Cultural and public programmes will be held at the venue every evening and will continue until January 2.

According to City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, parking of vehicles is strictly prohibited on both sides of the road from Lalbagh to Karavali Utsava Ground. Visitors are requested to park their vehicles only at designated parking areas.

To help the public, traffic signboards and parking guidance flex boards have been installed along the routes leading to the venue. The police have urged commuters and visitors to follow these instructions to ensure smooth traffic movement.

The police have appealed to the public to cooperate by following traffic rules and parking guidelines to avoid inconvenience during the festival.
