Large consignment of timber logs arrives at NMPT

Mangalore, September 12: MV Niamul Mowla, carrying 22,000 metric tonnes of timber logs (19,673 pieces) called at the Port recently. This is the first largest consignment of timber logs received and handled at the Port.

The entire consignment was loaded from Yangoon Port, the same is imported by 90 consignees located and based at Karnataka, Kerala and Maharashtra.

The unloading operation is in full swing and the vessel is expected to sail out after discharge on September 15. Dix Shipping is the Stevedores and Steamer agents of the vessel and C & F agents are Export Trade Links and Sri Ganesh Shipping Agency.

Dr. P. Tamilvanan, Chairman, NMPT has stated that the Port is making all out efforts for attracting more cargo, especially the traditional cargoes like timber by providing all the infrastructure required for the smooth handling of such bulk cargo.

During the last fiscal year 2011-12, the Port handled 2,96,881 metric tonnes of timber logs as against 1,87,793 tonnes handled during the previous year registering 58% growth rate.

While referring the recent visit of a delegation from the North Malabar Chamber of Commerce, Kannur, Dr. Tamilvanan expressed happiness over the assurance received from the delegation on moving their cargoes like timber, edible oil, plywood, textiles, scrap, etc. generated from Malabar region.

Air India Express brings back Mangaluru–Muscat direct flights from March 2026

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
