Bangalore, September 25: The police on Monday allegedly picked up a cyber café owner from Munireddypalya in RT Nagar here in the pretext of questioning in the alleged terror module case.

Family members gave the name of the arrested as Syed Umar (30).

Though Additional Commissioner of Police T. Sunil Kumar denied terming it as a “rumour”, family members of Syed Umar said that two persons claiming to be policemen asked Syed Umar to accompany them for questioning in connection with the shop's licence details.

Syed Umar called his elder brother, Syed Saleem, asking him to take care of the shop and went with the policemen.

While Syed Saleem tried to follow the policemen, they sent him back stating that they would send back Syed Umar after asking him a few questions.

Not convinced with the reply, Syed Saleem followed the vehicle in which the police took Syed Umar, but he lost his way and returned to the shop.

A few minutes later, the policemen returned to the shop again and collected a hard disk from a desktop.

“The police neither told me where they were taking him nor did they tell me the purpose of detaining Syed Umar,” Syed Saleem said and added that he got a call from Syed Umar saying that he is still with the police.

“We wanted to know under what charges he has been picked up,” Syed Saleem said.

However, police sources said that Syed Umar was being questioned about his links with “terror suspects”.

It could be recalled here that CCB police had picked up around a dozen educated youth from Bangalore and Hubli under the terror pretext last month.
