Ganeshotsav Committee president found brutally murdered in Mangalore

Mangalore, September 25: A tense atmosphere prevailed in the city following the brutal murder of a Ganeshotsav Committee leader in Mangalore on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Ganeshram Suvarna, who was the president of Pumpwell Sarvajanika Sri Ganeshotsav Committee.

A resident of Karkala, Suvarna had visited Mangalore to participate in Ganeshotsav programme. He had served as the president of Garodi Billava Samaja in the past. He also owned a medical shop in Karkala.

According to sources, his mobile was switched off since morning. When his friends decided to meet him directly at his residence in Gorigudda near Pumpwell, they found doors locked from inside. They knocked the door for a long time but in vain.

Finally when they forced open the doors the dead body of Suvarna was lying in a pool of blood.

Mangalore Police, who rushed to the spot soon after receiving the information, said that there was deep injury in his head.

A team of finger experts and a squad of sniffer dogs were pressed into action. A case has been registered and investigations are on.

Heading to Karavali Utsava? Check traffic changes and parking rules in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Dec 20: The Mangaluru City Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the inaugural ceremony of Karavali Utsava, which will be held at the Karavali Utsava Ground on Saturday.

The festival will be inaugurated at 6:00 pm by Dakshina Kannada District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Cultural and public programmes will be held at the venue every evening and will continue until January 2.

According to City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, parking of vehicles is strictly prohibited on both sides of the road from Lalbagh to Karavali Utsava Ground. Visitors are requested to park their vehicles only at designated parking areas.

To help the public, traffic signboards and parking guidance flex boards have been installed along the routes leading to the venue. The police have urged commuters and visitors to follow these instructions to ensure smooth traffic movement.

•   Gandhinagar Government School (near Press Club) – Two-wheelers and cars

The police have appealed to the public to cooperate by following traffic rules and parking guidelines to avoid inconvenience during the festival.
