Kasargord, September 30: Amid complaints of sexual harassment of a young endosulfan victim at Belur village, the district administration submitted reports on the case to State Human Rights Commission member K.E. Gangadharan during a sitting held by him here on Saturday.
District Collector P.S. Mohammed Sagir and the Sub-Inspector of Police, Ambalathara, in their reports maintained that preliminary investigation into the alleged incident suggested that the 20-year-old endosulfan victim, said to be suffering from mental ailments, was not sexually abused by a youth while she was alone at her residence, official sources said.
Following reports of the police failing to register cases after the alleged incident occurred nearly two years ago, the commission had registered a suo motu case and sought a report from the district administration, Mr. Gangadharan had said.
The two reports submitted to the commission are understood to have said that the accused had legally married the woman, and as such no police case was registered in connection with the alleged incident.
The commission had, therefore, decided to hear the case during its next sitting here in November, Mr. Gangadharan said, adding that it had also been decided to record the statement of the woman, who is estranged from her husband.
The commission, during the sitting, heard nine cases of which three were settled. The hearing on the remaining cases would be held during its next sitting, the sources said.
