Recently, H S Usman, President, DK Wakf Committee had organized a meeting at the circuit house in the city. But no intimation about it was given to Vice President Muneer and other members. Riyaz Khan, President, State Wakf Board, who had come to Mangalore wish the Hajj pilgrims, had invited 10 members each from the EK and AP groups.
In this meeting the circular issued by the Department of Minority Welfare in 2010 was pushed to the corner while being decided that respective Jamaa'ths could implement Madrasa syllabus as per their majority. This decision is likely to cause rift between those who have been willing to drop a few things from the syllabus which have continued to feature since decades and the opposite group.
A section of Beary Muslims of coastal districts, especially those belonging to the AP and EK Sunni factions have been inculcating two different Kerala based syllabi. It had resulted in conflicts every now and then.
Taking the matter seriously, the government had issued a circular in October 2011 notifying of its decision to convene a meeting of different groups to form a separate Madrasa syllabus for Karnataka.
Therefore, it was directed that a status quo be maintained and persist with the syllabus which was in existence prior to August 31, 2011. Although the status quo is being maintained by Madrasa committees in all other districts, the district Wakf Committee is facing allegations of violating the government order.
