Mangalore, Feb 19:  From an outset, the atmosphere is seemingly favouring the Congress party in the local body elections. While most of the Congressmen agree on this, they are only wondering if they can tap on this favourable condition to their advantage.

In Mangalore City Corporation, it is believed that even during last election, things were on Congress' side bringing to it a very bright chance to taste victory but the Congress failed to tap it because of the internal drift. Even this time, there are all favourable conditions for the Congress but many feel that the history may repeat itself with petty in fights among the Congressmen.

With the favourable atmosphere, the Congress is at the increased risk of rebel this time. While everyone is sure that the chances of the congress tasting victory is quite sure, the ones who will be denied tickets will surely contest as rebel candidates, which can be a major setback for the party.

It is not that the top-notch leaders are not anticipating trouble because of the rebels. But, the only problem is that none of the leaders have so far found a solution to combat rebels.

During the last elections, the then district in-charge of the party Sadananda Pooja had made a list of winning candidates. However, the so called senior leaders Janardhan Poojary, Veerappa Moily and Ramanath Rai, ignoring the list went ahead distributing tickets to their favourites and loyalists. The result is that the Congress has been in the opposition over the last five years. Now, the partyworkers say that if the party continues to neglect candidates with potential to win and candidates who are immensely popular, then the party will continue to taste failure even in future.
