Responding to Mr. Musliyar's appeal, the Union Minister said that the travel expenses of NRIs returning from Saudi Arabia would be borne by the government. Steps would be taken by the government to provide legal aid and release Indian workers in Saudi who have been put behind bars.
The Indian government will hold talks with the officials concerned of the Kingdom with regard to providing necessary documents to Indian workers in the Arab country who the Kingdom considers illegal. A request would be made to the Kingdom to allot more time for Indian workers working without a sponsor under a free visa to get a sponsor and legalise their businesses in the country, Mr. Ravi said.
Since the law concerns the internal matter of Saudi Arabia, the Indian government will not interfere and venture into a direct opposition of the law. But attempts will be made to make concessions and provide a bit of leniency with regard to Indian workers. The Ministry of External Affairs will be pressed into this task, Mr. Ravi said.
