Breifing media persons at a news conference in Mangalore on Tuesday, Sukanya, an office bearer of the Samithi said that Hindus must observe 'Ugadi' in accordance with the 'shastras' and traditions.
However, statements from the representatives of the Hindu outfit about shunning 'foreign' New Year celebrations drew media persons' attention, prompting the journos to fire an array of questions, much to the discomfort of the Samithi members.
Among the questions posed before them was the local new year celebration in the form of 'Bisu' and whether the 'Ugadi' celebration would also amount to a 'foreign' celebration for the locals.
Having no clear answer, the Samithi members had to return with their faces hanging low.
