Mangalore, Apr 12: Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha has urged the areca growers to pay not heed to the rumours being spread by some leaders and members of certain organizations that court has denied waiving off of their loans.

Addressing media persons at a news conference in Mangalore on Friday, Sachin Meega, Vice-President, Kisan Khet Mazdoor Congress said that although the High Court of Karnataka had directed the Union Ministry of Finance (MoF) to implement the Gorakh Singh report, it did not do so, amounting to contempt of court.

“In September 2012, the High Court delivered a verdict in favour of areca growers when it directed the Ministry of Finance to waive off loans of areca growers possessing up to 10 acres of land. But the MoF did not honour the verdict of the court and did not implement the Gorakh Singh report. Some officials and leaders are misleading areca farmers by making false and irresponsible statements stating that the court has not asked loans to be waived off. Areca growers of the district must not pay heed to these rumours since the court verdict is in their favour”, Mr. Meega sought to clarify.

About 2,48,000 families dependent on areca farming will benefit if loans are waived off. The approximate amount of loan is Rs. 2008 crore, Mr. Meega said.

B Sridhar Shetty, Working President, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, Hasiru Sene, DK, N Ishwar Bhat Badila, Chief Secretary, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, Hasiru Sene, DK, were present.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
