Mangalore, April 17: U T Khader, the Congress heavyweight from Mangalore Assembly Constituency, filed his election nomination papers at the office of the Returning Officer at Deputy Commissioner's office in Mangalore on Wednesday.

Speaking to media persons after completing the paper submission formalities and reading out the oath before the Returning Officer B Sadashiva Prabhu, Mr. Khader said that he has been fortunate to have been considered by the party high command to contest from Mangalore (Ullal) constituency again.

“The elders in the party, leaders and party workers of my constituency have shown faith in me. I have their blessings and am confident that the Congress party will emerge victorious not just in my constituency but in the state as well”, Mr. Khader said.

When asked about a good number of minority candidates contesting as independents and through different parties from the Ullal constituency, Mr. Khader said that the Congress party is strong enough to face any challenge this election.

“Everyone has a right to contest elections since we are a democratic country. No matter what the challenge, the Congress party is strong enough to take it on. I am not here to defeat anyone. Our common goal is to make sure that the party prevails”, Mr. Khader said.

Campaigning for elections is in full swing in his constituency and work is being carried out with great intensity at booth levels too, Mr. Khader said.

While Mr. Khader's nomination filing was of utmost importance to shutterbugs on the occasion, there were a few from the anti-Khader camp who filed in their papers today as well.

Farooq U H, who is spearheading the 'Naija Congressigara Samithi' from Ullal in rebellion against Mr. Khader, filed his nomination papers as an independent candidate. Hameed Ullal from JD(U) and independent candidates Bawa Mohammed and Ibrahim were among the ones who filed their nominations today as well.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
