Mangalore, Apr 18: Preparations are in full swing for the three-day 'Ramotsav' being organised on the occasion of Ram Navami at Nehru Maidan from Friday onwards, said vice-president of state Vishwa Hindu Parishad M B Puranik.

Speaking at a press meet here on Thursday, he said that the 'Ramotsav' celebrations were being held annually for the twelfth year now. The values and principles followed during the time of Lord Rama are relevant even in this era. The intention of holding a 'Ramotsav' on a grand scale is to ensure that these principles are absorbed and inculcated in people in today's world, he said.

President of Ramotsav Samiti Mangalore Pushparaj Jain said that around 25,000 devotees were expected to take part in the celebrations.

A total of 18 teams from the districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi will take part in Narthana Bhajan competition on Friday. 'Ravana Dahana' programme will be held at night on Sunday, for which a 25-foot tall effigy of Ravana was being erected. Various cultural programmes such as plays and dance-dramas will be held on all the three days.

VHP leaders Dr P Ananthkrishna Bhat and Jagadish Shenava, Jitendra Kottari and Sharan Pumpwell were also present in the press meet.
