Mangalore, Apr 21: A comprehensive plan for providing drinking water to Mangalore city, development of roads and footpaths, free medical services to poor, parking facility at the service bus stand, alternative market facilities for vegetable, fish and meat shops and street vendors, permanent house facilities for civic workers are among the main promises of Dakshina Kannada district unit of JD(S).
The faction ridden party released its election manifesto after inaugurating Mangalore South constituency election office in Balmatta-Bendoorwell road on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mangalore South constituency JD(S) candidate S P Changappa said that those who had joined the JD(S) from other parties have now quit the party, but the loyal workers and leaders who have worked for the JD(S) from long time, continue to remain in the party. The party will unitedly fight the election, he said.
Reacting to the allegations from a few quarters that he has not yet obtained the party membership, Changappa said that he had obtained the membership 15 days ago.
“I was an active member of the BJP for a long time, but quit the party due to ideological differences and was away from politics for last 10 years. I joined the JD(S) by accepting the party's ideology. I had no intention to contest the election, but decided for the same as the party leader A Sadananda Shetty stepped back from contesting the election in the last minute and insisted me to contest in his place,” he clarified.Speaking after releasing the manifesto, A Sadananda Shetty said that he backed from contesting the election due to health reasons.
“I recommended the name of Changappa to replace me as he has the capability to fight the polls,” Sadananda Shetty said.
