DK lads bell the cat in PUC exam, say regular studies is mantra for success

Mangalore, May 6: The Pre University examination results have only reinstated the belief that Dakshina Kannada is the land of intellectuals.

Akshay Kamath from Canara Pre University College, Mangalore with his splendid total of 594 has topped the state in science stream and Sooraj Hegde from Alva's College Moodabidri  with 593 (98.83 pc) has topped the state in commerce stream.

While Akshay scored perfect score of 100 in PCME, 100 in Sanskrit and 94 in English, Sooraj scored 100 each in Business Mathematics, Statistics, Accountancy and Business Studies, 98 in Sanskrit and 95 in English.

Akshay Kamath is the son of Canara bank Manager K Umesh Kamath and Indian Bank employee Jayashree Kamath. Having undergone coaching at Expert Institute, Mangalore, Akshay hopes to become an Electronic Engineer.

Speaking about his strategy, Akshay said that he dedicated six hours a day for studying, increasing it to 10 to 12 hours a day during holidays.

However, Akshay said that while his aim was to score 580 marks, coaching with the Expert helped him score higher marks.

Akshay has appeared for the JEE Examination hoping that he would get seat in NITK-Surathkal.

On the other hand, Sooraj from Borkatte in Karkala taluk is the son of Santhosh Hegde, a senior assistant in National insurance, Moodabidri and Prasanna Hegde, an assistant in Head Post office Karkala.

Talking about his success, Sooraj firstly attributed it to the support of his parents and then said that he did not burn midnight oil but studied at least five to six hours during study holidays and two hours daily.

An ecstatic Sooraj said that though he was not confident of becoming State topper, he always wanted to make his village and his parents proud.

With his target set on the CPT exams to be held in June, Sooraj is an avid stamp collector.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: The Mangaluru City Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the inaugural ceremony of Karavali Utsava, which will be held at the Karavali Utsava Ground on Saturday.

The festival will be inaugurated at 6:00 pm by Dakshina Kannada District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Cultural and public programmes will be held at the venue every evening and will continue until January 2.

According to City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, parking of vehicles is strictly prohibited on both sides of the road from Lalbagh to Karavali Utsava Ground. Visitors are requested to park their vehicles only at designated parking areas.

To help the public, traffic signboards and parking guidance flex boards have been installed along the routes leading to the venue. The police have urged commuters and visitors to follow these instructions to ensure smooth traffic movement.
