Maoists, ANF come face to face, one cop injured

Sringeri, May 16: An exchange of fire took place between the Anti Naxal Force and the Maoists at Heggan in Kere Gram Panchayat on Wednesday morning, during which an ANF personnel was injured.

Based on information procured from reliable sources with regard to a hideout of the Maoists in the region, the ANF initiated a combing operation near Heggan estate.

As the cops came closer to their target, the Maoists opened fire and when the cops countered their attack, the Maoists fled into the thick jungle. In the exchange of fire one ANF personnel named Girish was injured.

It is said that on Tuesday night, a team of eight Maoists led by Mundagaru Latha visited the home of one of the farmers and held talk with the family, in Kere Gram Panchayat limits.

On Wednesday, they had held a meeting with the local residents in broad daylight and while returning from the meeting, they came face to face with the ANF near Heggan Estate.

District Superintendent of Police Shashikumar visited the spot. He said that since Heggan village as thick forests, which leads to places like Karkala and Agumbe, operations have been started here.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: The Mangaluru City Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the inaugural ceremony of Karavali Utsava, which will be held at the Karavali Utsava Ground on Saturday.

The festival will be inaugurated at 6:00 pm by Dakshina Kannada District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Cultural and public programmes will be held at the venue every evening and will continue until January 2.

According to City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, parking of vehicles is strictly prohibited on both sides of the road from Lalbagh to Karavali Utsava Ground. Visitors are requested to park their vehicles only at designated parking areas.

To help the public, traffic signboards and parking guidance flex boards have been installed along the routes leading to the venue. The police have urged commuters and visitors to follow these instructions to ensure smooth traffic movement.
