Mangalore, May 20: Newly sworn-in Minister for Urban Development and Kaup MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake was accorded a warm and joyous welcome by Congress workers and his supporters on his arrival at Mangalore International Airport at noon here on Monday.

Amidst a cheering crowd at the airport, the Minister told mediapersons that he was all set to solve problems pertaining to drinking water and underground drainage system in Mangalore City Corporation limits after having a discussion with the officials concerned.

“Mangalore is a fast-developing city. With both the state and central governments having identified the potential here, a comprehensive plan to convert it into a major city will be underway. Several development programmes will be undertaken following a meeting of officials coming under my department on Wednesday,” he said.

Hoping to restore the city's tarnished image due to instances of moral policing, he said that preparations will be taken to enable the police department to prevent any untoward incidents, within the next six months, rather than making amendments after such incidents occur.

Touching on the subject of illegal land encroachment and construction of buildings in Mangalore, he said that the system of providing title deeds to people residing in government lands for a long period of time will be implemented shortly. The homes belonging to the poor will not be taken from them, he said.

Congress leaders Ivan D'Souza and Ibrahim Kodichal were present at the airport.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
