Mangalore, May 21: Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader directed the officials to complete the work that were pending following model code of conduct, to ensure the supply of water to the villagers.

During a meeting with elected representatives and officials convened to review water crisis in Mangalore constituency, Mr Khader expressed unhappiness over the functioning of Mescom.

He said that electricity connections should be provided for water projects to supply water in Harekala, Kinyakaje, Tilaknagar and Subhashnagar.

Mr Khader said that bore-wells can be drilled in case of emergency to supply water. The officials should visit those areas that have been facing acute shortage of water and prepare an action plan to provide permanent drinking water projects.

He also urged the officials to supply water to SC colonies through tankers till the region gets rain.

The minister said that the engineers and geologists should collect opinion from the local residents before sending any proposal to the government.

In a meeting related to health, the Minister called upon the health officials to furnish details on the government order that had prohibited them from upgrading PHCs.

The officials should be practical especially during the surveys. DHO Dr O Sriranga said that one PHC was allotted to the district at Palthadi near Puttur last year. The sanctioned post in the health department is 228. However, only 61 staff are functioning. To which, the Minister promised to fill the vacancies at the earliest.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
