Incumbent Mangalore MP Nallin Kumar Kateel, according to sources is not interested in contesting the polls as he has expressed his desire to be actively involved in strengthening the party in the region.
In such a situation, the next obvious question is about the name of the possible candidate who will be fielded by the BJP to represent the region in the Parliament. However, without any efforts the answer being heard from the party is D V Sadananda Gowda. One more name that has been making rounds is N Yogish Bhat, the former MLA of Mangalore City South.
Mr Gowda who was a MP, is now a MLC and the term of the Council will be over in another two years. After that he will be rendered jobless. In such a situation, there are all possibilities of Mr Gowda contesting the Parliamentary polls to try his luck. His chances are open from Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency as well. Hence the name of N Yogish Bhat is being heard in Mangalore constituency. Mr Bhat has been an asset to the party. He has become MLA for the four consecutive terms and now his name is in the tentative list of candidates for Parliamentary polls.
All in all one will have to see if the BJP will save its face in the Lok Sabha polls or even here it will have thrashings from the voters.
