
The rescued has been identified as Rakesh (19), a resident of sixth cross, Rajajinagar, Bangalore. He is a student of first PUC at KLE College, Vijayanagar.
Rakesh is the 76th tourist that lifeguards of the project have saved since 2008.
Yathish Baikampady, chief executive officer of the project, said that Rakesh had come to the beach with his friend Hemanth.
He said that when the youth entered the water in a part of the beach that is notorious for rip currents at around 11:00 a.m., the lifeguards asked them to exit the area and they did so.
However, when the lifeguards went to patrol other part of the beach, they youth once again entered the sea in the same area and a rip current sucked Rakesh in.
Fortunately, the lifeguards, who spotted the youth fighting the high tides rescued him, Mr Baikampady said.
