A media release issued by the Embassy has stated that all such applicants should submit their passport applications under renewal category and will be issued new passports.

The documents required for issuing of such passports are uploaded at the Embassy of India website at www.indianembassy.org.sa.

The documents include (a) letter from the new company in English or with English translation duly attested by the Chamber of Commerce (format of the letter uploaded on Embassy of India Website); (b) Affidavit from the Applicant (format of the affidavit uploaded on Embassy of India website)

All such applicants should approach the VFS Passport Application Centers in Um Al Hammam, Batha and Dammam. These applicants will be issued passports on a priority basis starting June 6, 2013 to complete the transfer process, stated the release.

New format of Indian passport

Meanwhile, the Saudi authorities have started accepting the new series passports issued by the Indian consulate in Jeddah, a press statement by the Indian mission said.

Immigration authorities in Jeddah had refused to accept new Indian passports in which photos of passport holders are placed on the third page instead of the second page as was the case with old passports.

The case came to light when Indians with new passports approached the Passport Department for transfer of visa information from the old to the new passport, a procedure which is mandatory whenever a new booklet is issued.

The issue was resolved after Indian Ambassador Hamid Ali Rao met Saudi Deputy Minister of Interior Dr Ahmed Al-Saleh, and informed him that Indian passport format has been changed.

But immigration authorities in Jeddah were still not accepting new passport booklets.

Indian Embassy's Deputy Chief of Mission Sibi George recently said that a few cases reported in Jeddah were because the authorities were not aware of the new format of the passport. There was no issue at Riyadh or in any other city in the country, he said.

But now, according to the Indian consulate press release, Jeddah Passport Department and immigration officials too have started accepting the new passport.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Educational institutions in Mangaluru that rely on the popular Mangala Stadium for their annual sports events are bracing for an inconvenience as the city's key sporting venue is set to close its gates for a significant upgrade. The stadium is expected to be unavailable for approximately two months starting from January 15, 2026.

The closure is necessitated by a proposed overhaul of the stadium's facilities, with a special focus on upgrading the synthetic track. Pradeep Dsouza, Assistant Director of the District of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES), Dakshina Kannada, confirmed the development.

"Experts have visited the stadium, conducted a thorough inspection, and have given the go-ahead for a complete makeover," Dsouza stated. "Funds have been allocated for the project, and we are currently awaiting the final green signal from state officials to commence the work. We anticipate that the work will likely begin in the second week of January. Consequently, we have stopped renting out the stadium to colleges and other organizations in preparation for the upgrade."

The timing presents a logistical challenge for colleges, as many schools have already concluded their sports meets.

"Colleges will now be organizing their events and will need to find alternative locations to host their sports meets," Dsouza added. He suggested a few potential venues, including the Dakshina Kannada police ground, University College grounds, Panambur grounds, Swaraj Maidan in Moodbidri, and the Mangalore University sports grounds in Konaje.

However, many institutions note that finding a comparable venue will be difficult. While the DK police ground and University College grounds are closer to the city center, they do not possess the extensive facilities and infrastructure offered by Mangala Stadium.

Dr. P Dayananda Pai - P Satisha Govt First Grade College, Carstreet, is one such institution dependent on the stadium. Principal Jayakar Bhandary expressed hope for a swift completion of the work. "We expect the work to be completed at the earliest. If not, we will be forced to look for other venues to host the sports day for our students," Bhandary said, highlighting the pressing need for the city's main sporting facility.
