The Panjakke Morarji Residential School in Sullia Taluk, sanctioned a few years ago is currently running at Narkoda. The Department of Social Welfare had sanctioned another Morarji School for Sullia prior to elections. Slated to start functioning from this academic year, the school invited applications from students for admission, of which 50 were selected. It was decided that the School would temporarily be run in Subhramanya Ashrama School premises.
However, the Department of Social Welfare has taken U turn by circulating a cancellation order. The 50 selected students have been left in the lurch as a result.
Rajshekhar, an official of the Department, has said that arrangements have been made to relocate 20 of these 50 students to different places. The rest of them will also be shifted to other Morarji schools soon. By Monday, the Department will have a clear picture as to how many vacant seats are available in different Morarji schools and children will be accommodated accordingly, he says.
M Venkatappa Gowda, Block Congress President and Treasurer of Gandhi Nagar PU College Committee has said that no one had brought this development to his notice. He will take up the issue and press for proper accommodation of students, he said.
