The police have shown inaction in nabbing the gang of thieves, allege the villagers who have begun a hunt for the gang.

A gang of thieves attempted to break into the house of Obaiyya in Ilantila last Sunday night. However, they escaped as soon as the family members became aware of their presence.

On Monday night, the house belonging to Ummar was subjected to an attempt of theft, which too failed as the family members became aware of the attempt, and the thieves fled from the spot.

Gang using car, auto-rickshaw

The thieves have been using a Maruti Omni car and rickshaw to carry out their deeds. Having six members in their gang, they operate in packs of two in different areas at the same time. Following the thievery, they convene on one spot and escape in their vehicle.

The robbed items are loaded in the auto-rickshaw and then taken to another designated spot. This is their modus operandi, claim locals.

Police inactivity

The people of Ilantila have complained that inspite of providing information of the thievery attempt on Sunday to Uppinangady police, they failed to respond to the situation claiming that there was shortage of police staff and advised them to handle the situation themselves.

It is said that every theft that occurred in Uppinangady limits had the involvement of some locals. With the police taking things very lightly, a major allegation has been doin rounds that there is some involvement by police quarters too in the series of thefts in the region.
