
Bhatkal, Jun 12: Police have arrested a person in Uttar Kannada district on charges of illegally manufacturing a single-barreled gun, and also seized three guns manufactured by him.
The arrested person is Krishna alias Manjunath Madheva Naik (41), who earned his living as a carpenter.
On the basis of definite information, police raided his house and seized a gun manufactured by him with the help of steering pipe of a jeep. Krishna had manufactured a total of three single-barreled guns in three years.
The other two guns were sold to two different persons, which were recovered from their respective homes, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police Savishankar Naik.
It had been learnt by the police that he had manufactured a single-barreled gun similar to a Single Barrel Muzzle Loading (SBML) gun. Out of the three manufactured guns, one had been sold to a Nagaraj Halalli from Gunaganahalli in Hanagal taluk while the other was sold to Manjunath Kurubara from Kamalur in Soraba taluk.
Considering them as suspects, police visited their houses for interrogation only to find them absconding. The operation was conducted by a team of police officers including Banawasi police station inspector N R Polisapatil, Gururaj and Mohammed Shafi, led by CPI Nagesh Shetty.
