Mangalore, Jun 15: An ambulance, which was rushing a patient to hospital, turned turtle at the precarious Budoli bridge, near Mani in Vittal on the outskirts of Mangalore.
It is said that the driver was in an inebriated state and this led to the mishap.
The ambulance was taking a patient from Hasan who was in critical condition to Mangalore for treatment.
While one of the drivers of the ambulance was tired, the other driver took the charge. However, both the drivers Ganesh (25) and Nagaraj (23) had drunk good quantity of liquor at Gundya.
While the family of the patient did not have any option but to bank on the drunk drivers, they were praying for life because they knew that the two drunken young men will create problems for them.
The family's fear became reality at Budoli bridge when the driver lost control over the ambulance and the vehicle toppled over.
The patient, and the family members were safe in the ambulance. The patient was immediately shifted to another ambulance and was rushed to Mangalore. Case was then registered at Vittal police station.
