Udupi, Jun 18: The dirty water near Udupi city bus stand and service bus stand are becoming a cause of worry for the local residents, who are living under constant fear of being infected by vector borne diseases, which has shown up in the district.

The bus stands have been serving as mosquito breeding centres. Building debris and other waste can be seen dumped here and due to the monsoon all the waste together has been posing lot of problems in the city. Several petty shops running in the area are only adding to the situation.

Since lot of migrant workers and daily wage workers come to this area, the authorities should pay extra attention towards maintaining cleanliness in the area, demand of local residents.

These migrant workers would have been infected by malaria at their native place and would have travelled to coastal district in search of job way before the ailment is cured. In such cases, there are all possibilities of their disease being spread to others through mosquitoes, say the local residents.

The parking area in the bus stand has been transformed into an open toilet by the labour class, despite the fact that a pay and use toilet is already existent there.

All of the dirty flows along with rainwater downwards, into service bus stand and then on Udupi-Manipal road. This water gets collected in the potholes on the road.

The local residents say that authorities have to take steps to solve the problems existing in the city.

However, district health and family welfare officer Dr Ramachandra Bayari has said that he would bring the matter to the notice of the Council.
