Speaking at the district Congress office in Mangalore on Wednesday, Mr. George said that his ministry will not tolerate acts that disrupt harmony in society and stern action will be taken against those indulging in moral policing, attacks on minorities and other illegal activities.
“The district was known for its communal harmony but owing to some evil political intentions of a few, it was disrupted. We will not allow moral policing and any such illegal activities. We have already taken decisions with regard to dropping of cases against media persons who were framed in the homestay attack”, Mr. George said.
Congress leaders and activists thronged the office in good numbers to meet the minister and place before him several d emands.
Mamatha Gatty, Member of Zilla Panchayat and head of the district Congress Mahila Morcha raised the issue of drug menace in schools and colleges in the district and urged the Minister to direct the police department to take the matter seriously. The allegations of sexual harassment of a lady police officer against ACP Jagannath are also not being probed in the right spirit and the Minister must ensure that a fair probe is carried out and apt action is taken, she said.
J R Lobo, MLA, Mangalore South, requested the Minister to consider the issue of granting of licenses to illegal clubs and gambling houses in the district seriously and take necessary action in this regard.
Appeals with regard to the problem of passport verification and the trouble being faced by guest lecturers and teachers in the district with regard to online selection and deputation to far away places were also placed before the Minister on the occasion.
B Ramanath Rai, District in-charge minister, Ibrahim Kodichal, Interim President, DKCC, Ivan D'Souza, KPCC Secretary, K S Mohammed Masood, Former President, State Minorities Commission, were among those present.
