Udupi, Jun 20: Thrasi, one of the tourist hotspots in Kundapur is facing problems due to the turbulent sea waves. A 250 mts pathway constructed here has been a major tourist attraction. However, the turbulent waves hitting the shores have damaged the pathway partially.
It is said that the sand under the walk way is being eroded and hence there is a threat of the entire walk way going submerged soon.
At certain places the waves have swallowed the platform laid on the shores along with the benches. Several coconut trees too have joined the lap of the sea.
The sea has turned turbulent over the last four days specifically, damaging the stones laid on the shores and the walk way.
The situation remained to be the same till Tuesday and the local residents say that if the fierceness of the sea continues then the entire stretch of stone laid portion and the walk way will be submerged, posing greater threat to the people living near the shores.
On Tuesday evening MLA K Gopal Poojary visited the area and held a talk with the Deputy Commissioner and directed him to do the needful at the earliest.
As per the direction of the Deputy Commissioner, Dinesh from Nirmiti Kendra and Tathod from Fisheries Department visited the spot.
Measures have taken to ensure safety of the people living nearby. Coastal Security Force Inspector K Tharanath, Gangolly Inspector S Sampath, Mohommad Ibrahim from Gangolly Helpline Centre are at the spot ensuring safety of the people.
