Mangalore, Jun 21: In a spine-chilling incident, a two-and-a half-year-old girl child plunged to death from the sliding window of a second-floor room of a private in Mangalore, on Friday evening.

Ever-smiling Marwa, daughter of Mukthar, a resident of Kanhangad in Kerala, was the most lovable child in her entire family.

The incident occurred at around 4:30 p.m. Marwa was playing with her twin-sister at Room No. 316 of Colaco Hospital, Lower Bendorewell, minutes before the fatal fall.

The four-member happy family had come to Mangalore on June 17 and the following day the number of same family members had increased to five as Marwa's mother gave birth to a baby boy.

However, as per medical requirement the new-born baby and mother continued to stay in the hospital. Other members of the family too remained in the hospital.

Hospital sources said that when the little child suddenly ran towards the sliding window and pushed it open. As there was no other barrier, the child lost balance and fell out the window.

The child was immediately administered first aid and shifted to KMC hospital for further treatment as per the advice of doctors. However, since the brain was directly affected due to the impact of the fall, and the supply of oxygen to the brain had been snapped, the efforts to save her failed, sources said.

The tragedy has left the parents in deep shock. Attributing the tragedy to destiny, victim's father Mukthar said when Allah bestowed him a baby boy, one of his daughters left this world.

He also criticized hospital authorities for lack of safety measures. “There are no proper locks for the sliding windows in the room where my wife was admitted. Hospital is also responsible for this tragedy,” he said.
