Manipal, July 6: Udupi Deputy Commissioner M T Reju said eight of the 24 candidates selected for the post of village accountants (Vas) in the district will be dismissed and criminal action taken against them for producing forged certificates.
Addressing media persons here he said that around 24 candidates were selected as village accountants for the year 2013 from across the State, however only 19 had joined despite sending appointment letters to all the 24.
Out of 19, as many as eight have produced fake PUC certificates carrying marks above 90 per cent. These people have joined in between March and May. All the eight are dismissed with immediate effect and the dismissal order will be issued on Saturday.
Besides criminal charges under IPC Sections 420, 465, 466, 468 and 471 will be tried. The jurisdictional Tahsildar will file the complaints in the respective police stations, and the punishment may be imprisonment around 2 years to 7 years with fine if the guilt is proved, he added.
The DC said around five are yet to join, however the district administration suspects that these five might have produced forged certificates and are hesitant to take up the job fearing criminal action. The district administration will also initiate orders to scrutinize all the appointments that have been taken place in previous years, he said.
The jurisdictional tahsildar will file the complaints in the respective police stations. The punishment may be 2 to 7 years with fine if the guilt is proved, he added.
The candidates who produced forged certificates include Venkatesh M from Bangalore Rural, Basavaraj HP from Hassan, Raghavendra P from Mandya, Kumar K from Davanagere, Laxminarayana K N from Chikkaballapur, Jayalaxmi S from Mangalore, Lohitashwa N K from Hassan and Nagaraj G from Chikkaballapur.
Lohitashwa had produced two separate forged documents during his selection and also appointment, the DC said.
