Mangalore, Jul 7: After the Uttarakhand catastrophe, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has categorically sought relief for and rehabilitation of the Hindus living in the wrecked land.
Staging a protest outside Deputy Commissioner's office in Mangalore on Sunday, the Samiti kept forth its demand and said that Government must take steps to provide land and employment to the Hindus who have lost their property and livelihood in the fatal floods.
Taking objection to the statement made by the Prime Minister that restrictions will be laid on Hindu pilgrimages to avert such incidents, the Samiti Convener Prasanna Kamath said that it is rather ridiculous to note that such a restriction is being spoken of in a Hindu nation.
“Such a restriction will be an injustice on the religious majority and this must be condemned by all means,” he said questioning if the government has ever contemplated to do the same with other religions.
Mr Kamath has said that the government should instead think of bringing about blanket ban on construction of dams and reservoirs across water sources in Uttarakhand as the unscientific development undertaken in the ecologically sensitive region like Uttarakhand is said to be the reason behind the flood.
Dwarakapeet Shankaracharya Swamiji Shree Swaroopananda said that Uttarakhand, which is a 'Devabhoomi' has unfortunately been advertised as a honeymooners' paradise and a tourist destination. “This wrong portrayal of the state must be stopped,” he said.
Hindu Janajagruti Samiti Member Harshavardhan Shetty, Sanathana Samsthe member Vijayalakshmi among others were present.
Meanwhile the organization also protested against film 'Bhag Milkha Bhag', raising objection against certain aspects of the film.
