Bantwal, Jul 8: A case of failed robbery attempt has come to light in Kambalabettu, near Vittal in Bantwal Taluk. The disappointed robbers, who were on their way back, were nabbed by the locals but the robbers managed to give the locals a slip in a rather filmy way.

The incident took place at the residence of one Hameed Saheb, near Dargah in Kambalabettu of Mudnoor village in Vital. Mr Saheb lives abroad and his family members had been to one of the relatives' house in Kerala on Sunday. However, at about 8 pm when the family returned they were taken by surprise to see the scattered things in the house suggesting that someone had clandestinely gained entry into the house with the intention of robbing the house.

When they were looking at the open cupboards, broken doors and scattered things in the house, they felt that someone ran out of the house from the back door.

They resorted to screaming for help and soon one of the robbers was nabbed by local resident S K Mohammad with the help of another person.

However, the robber was well versed in his business. Within no time he gave a slip and ran way.

Vital police arrived to the spot and found the equipment used by the robbers to break open the doors.

The local residents initiated a search for the robbers till morning, but went futile.

Robbers from Kerala

It is said that when the family members returned home, they saw a Swift car parked outside the house bearing Kerala registration. When the family members arrived, the car left the place. The car was later seen at Shantinagar after some time, say the witness. This has fuelled suspicion that the robbers are from Kerala.

Shop robbed

Meanwhile a general store of Suleiman Pilipe, near Kundadka temple in the same village was robbed. The robbers have fled with Rs 25,000. The incident came to light on Monday morning. The owner of the shop was in the shop till about 10.30 pm on Sunday. The robbery plan was executed late in the night. Case has been registered with Vittal police.
