
Mangalore, Jul 10: Police successfully stopped a vehicle transporting cattle, on Wednesday morning, near Gurupur bridge on the outskirts of the city.
The cattle were brutally stashed in the vehicle and when the police waylaid the Mahindra pick up van, four out of 19 cattle were dead.
According to sources from Mangalore Rural Police Station there were four persons inside the vehicle including driver. However, all of them managed to escape.
At around 6.30 a.m. patrolling police noticed a Mahindra Pickup without number plate moving near Thiruvail village of Vamanjur, Mangalore. When they signaled the driver to stop, he took a reverse and sped away.
Alert, police immediately began to chase the vehicle and managed to stop it within few minutes.
However, the four persons, who alighted from the Pickup fled the scene even before police could catch them.
The seized vehicle and cattle have been taken to the station.
A case has been registered and investigations are on.
