Dreams of poor family electrocuted with Milan

Mangalore, Jul 11: Educated youth today shy away from doing jobs that they consider below their dignity. Expecting an Engineering graduate to take cattle for grazing would be too much to ask for. But, in case of engineering graduate Milan Shetty, who was electrocuted to death on Wednesday after coming in contact with a high tension wire that was dangling on the outskirts of the city due to the negligence of Mescom, this was not true.

For Milan, taking care of the cattle was something close to heart. While he took pride in toiling in the field and taking care of the livestock, he knitted several dreams of having a plush job and earning good salary to build better future for himself and his family. However, all of these dreams wound up quite too fast as Milan died an untimely death on Wednesday morning.

For no fault of his, Milan laid numb on the ground early on Wednesday morning, near his house in Farangipet in Bantwal taluk after being electrocuted. Ironically, he had been there to take his cattle for grazing.

Milan was a hard working young boy. After having completed his primary and higher primary schooling in Mumbai, Milan came to Mangalore for his Higher Secondary Education. He completed his engineering degree from Sahyadri College of Engineering last year and was on a look out for job.

He had appeared for interview for several companies in Bangalore. Two days ago he should have left to Bangalore but confusion in his passport with regard to his name prevented him. His plan to go to Bangalore after two days will never happen.

Poor family

Milan's father Ramesh Shetty ran a petty shop in Mumbai. Mr Shetty came back to native place after he developed heart problem. Despite acute poverty the parents saw to it that the financial constrains never posed impediments to the dreams of their children. Despite all odds, the family nurtured Milan's dreams of becoming an engineer. His younger sister Nidhi too is studying in a private college in Mangalore. Milan's mother Vasanthi Shetty is the member of Pudu Gram Panchayat.

Coincidence

A startling fact is that four years ago one of the cattle of Ramesh Shetty had got electrocuted at the same spot. On Wednesday the family could not help but recalled the incident because this day it was their son who was electrocuted at the same spot.

While the Shetty family was about to see better days with Milan settling down in life, all of their dreams have been dampened by fate.

Post-Sabarimala pilgrimage drinking party turns fatal in Udupi; youth killed in midnight brawl

Udupi, Dec 15: What was meant to be a post-pilgrimage gathering turned tragic in Padukere village of Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, late Sunday night, when a clash among youths escalated into a fatal assault, leaving one man dead.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Santosh Mogaveera, a resident of Padukere.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place during a late-night drinking party involving a group of local youths who had recently returned after completing their pilgrimage to the Sabarimala shrine. An argument reportedly broke out among the group and soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the ensuing brawl, Santosh Mogaveera was allegedly assaulted and collapsed at the spot after sustaining serious injuries. He was rushed by local residents to a private hospital in Brahmavar, where doctors declared him dead.

On receiving information, senior police officials, including Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna, Kota Police Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar T, Station ASI Manthesh Jabagoudar, and head constables Pradeep and Ashok, visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Police have taken four youths into custody in connection with the incident. A case has been registered at the Kota police station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the death.
