Mangalore, Jul 11: A leopard which had been stalking and preying on cattle in the interior parts of Bantwal taluk was finally caught by the Forest Department officials.
The wild animal had swallowed several cattle Chennai Thodi village in Bantwal.
Following complaints by villagers that their cattle were being killed by cheetah, forest officials laid a trap by keeping a cage in the land belonging to Madhava, who had lost many cattle.
On Thursday morning the villagers celebrated the “arrest” of trouble-monger leopard as it was trapped in the cage.
Soon after the wild animal realised it was trapped, the leopard tried to escape by biting on the bone and lost two of its teeth.
The leopard was later shifted to Dr Shivaram Karanth Biological Park at Pilikula Nisargadhama on the outskirts of Mangalore.
The general health of the leopard was normal.
