Bangalore, Jul 18: A BMTC bus driver who suffered a massive heart attack while driving on Wednesday used his presence of mind to stop the vehicle on the side of the road, saving the lives of 50 passengers.

BMTC officials said Rahmatullah, 35, from Chintamani was driving on the Shivajinagar-Banashankari route. He reached Banashankari and on the return journey, stopped the vehicle (KA 57-F20) at the bus bay in Banashankari TTMC (traffic and transit management centre).
When the driver did not move the vehicle, the conductor rushed to the front to find the driver Rahmatullah lying on the steering wheel. He had died on the spot.
He was rushed to a hospital in Wilson Garden where he was declared brought dead.
Meanwhile, BMTC officials said Rahmatullah suffered a massive heart attack and that his wife would be provided employment. Rahmatullah, who was employed in the BMTC for at least a decade, is survived by four children. His body was later shifted to Victoria Hospital.
