Vijay Diwas commemorates sacrifices of soldiers

Mangalore, Jul 26: Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed with great deal of respect and patriotism in the city. Organised by Dakshina Kannada Ex-Servcemen's Association, Centre for Integrated Learning and Lions Club Mangalore, at Lions Seva Mandir, Mallikatte, on Friday, the event was inaugurated by Disha Amrith, an engineering student of BMS Engineering College, Bangalore and a former Republic day parade cadet.

Ms Disha said that despite being a woman, she will fulfill her father's wish of joining the defence because it was an unrealised dream that he had dreamt for himself.

Speaking about her experiences with National Cadet Corps, she said that her days in NCC had helped her develop discipline and self-respect. She spoke on 'patriotism and national pride' to commemorate the Kargil Vijay Diwas.

Lions District Governor, Lions International District 317 D, KC Prabhu. MJF delivering presidential at the occasion said that'during Kargil war many soldiers had promised of returning home. However, while some hoisted the Indian flag, many returned home clad in the flag. Indian defence services made us live safely in country by fighting against enemies, he said.

On the occasion former servicemen Subedar Purushottam Achar, Subedar Cyril Dsouza and Col. Alexandar D' Silva were felicitated for their service in defence.

Following the inaugural program interaction with former service and student was held. During the workshop students were motivated by narrating stories of lives of soldiers, quiz and video documentaries of war.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
