Uppinangady, Jul 30: Akhila Bharatha Vidyarthi Parishat staged a protest against police for filing case against innocent student in connection to the recent student clash at government first grade college, Uppinangady and urged to protect female students from harassment.
Classes were voluntarily boycotted by hundreds of students, who participated in the protest. The Protesters marched through Uppinangady town to regional office.
State secretary, ABVP, Ramesh K addressing the protesters said, “police should withdraw cases filed against Uppinangady first grade college student, Ranjith. In recent days Hindu female students in coastal Karnataka are being harassed and police should take necessary action in tackling it”, he urged.
The ABVP activists handed over memorandum to Assistant Commissioner, H Prasanna after the protest.
Security was beefed up in Uppinangady to avert untoward incidents.
Some sources said that the ABVP has planned to continue peaceful protest for another two days, hence the students will tie black ribbons on their hand from Tuesday onwards.
