Kundapur based Vijay Poojary shot dead in Mumbai

Mumbai, Aug 2: Five men armed with a gun and choppers had killed a rival gang member in a bar at Khar (east) on Wednesday night. The accused fired on 38-year-old Vijay Poojary from Kundapur and then stabbed him several times and left from the bar after ensuring that Poojary was dead.

The accused had previous enmity with Poojary and they all had previous criminal records said the police. The Nirmal Nagar police registered the murder case and inquiring about the wanted accused.

Around 11.30 pm on Wednesday, Poojary was having a drink in Sharda bar at Golibar area along with his three friends. The accused, Rahul Sharma, Deepak Sharma, Ajay Pandit, Virendra Thakur and Subhash Shukla landed at the bar and started to inquire about Poojary.

The accused went near Poojary's table and Rahul fired two bullets on him. One bullet hit on Poojary's chest however other had missed the target. The accused then stabbed Poojary repeatedly. One of Poojary's friend also sustained minor injuries in the incident.

The accused and victim resides in neighbouring area at Khar (east). All the accused were history sheeter and Deepak was externed from the city in 2012. Poojary was employed with the cargo firm and there were two serious cases pending against him at Nirmal Nagar said the police.

The police said that Rahul and Deepak had fought with Poojary couple of times in last three years over the minor issues and they were on loggerhead. "The incident is outcome of their old rivalry. We have some clue about the accused and inquiring about it" said police inspector, Balwant Deshmukh.

The police recorded the statements of the waiters who witnessed the shootout in the bar along with others. The accused were wanted in previous cases registered with the police but they were untraceable.

Udupi, Dec 15: What was meant to be a post-pilgrimage gathering turned tragic in Padukere village of Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, late Sunday night, when a clash among youths escalated into a fatal assault, leaving one man dead.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Santosh Mogaveera, a resident of Padukere.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place during a late-night drinking party involving a group of local youths who had recently returned after completing their pilgrimage to the Sabarimala shrine. An argument reportedly broke out among the group and soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the ensuing brawl, Santosh Mogaveera was allegedly assaulted and collapsed at the spot after sustaining serious injuries. He was rushed by local residents to a private hospital in Brahmavar, where doctors declared him dead.

On receiving information, senior police officials, including Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna, Kota Police Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar T, Station ASI Manthesh Jabagoudar, and head constables Pradeep and Ashok, visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Police have taken four youths into custody in connection with the incident. A case has been registered at the Kota police station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the death.
