Udupi, Aug 3: A 20-year-old polytechnic student allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling at his home at Sagri in Udupi taluk on Saturday.
Santosh Kumar, a second year student, seemed to be in frustration as he had failed in five subjects.

Son of Sundar and Pratibha Jatanna couple, Kumar was alone at home when he took the extreme step. The incident came to light only when, his parents returned home.
Protest
The incident triggered fresh protests against recent changes in carryover system.
As soon as the news of suicide began to spread, activists of student organisations rushed to the hospital in Manipal, where the dead body of Kumar was kept.
Raising slogans against, what they called 'anti-student policy' of the government, the angry students demanded the education department to ease the burden on polytechnic students.
Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj also visited the spot and tried to convince the students to end the protest.
He also promised the protesters to exert pressure on education minister to fulfill the demands of the students.
