Lip-smacking 'aati' delicacies on shores of Panambur

Mangalore, Aug 9: 'Aatid Radd Dina', a two day Tulunadu food and cultural festival was inaugurated at Panambur beach by Member of Parliament, Nalin Kumar Kateel, on Friday. The event has been organised by Rotary club of Mangalore central.
Delivering the inaugural speech on the occasion Nalin Kumar kateel said that since culture and celebrations attached to the month of 'Aati' is declining many are not aware of the food delicacies that are specially prepared and savoured during this month. These kinds of events help in showcasing and safeguarding the culture.
He lamented that with more and more areas of Tulunadu making way for industrialisation, such celebrations will soon die or become confined to halls and auditoriums.
Mr Kateel also said that despite Tuluvas making to the top in almost every field, Tulu has not yet found place in the 8th schedule of the Constitution.
Sanjeev a folk artist sang 'Aati Pardana”, a song which highlights the condition of Aati month with the representation of Aati Kalanja during the occasion.
MLA, mangalore North, BA Mohiuddin Bava and Deputy Commissioner, Dakshina Kannada, N Prakash were chief guests.
Delicacies
Meanwhile large crowd was seen thronging to the food stalls selling various delicacies, which are prepared specially during 'Aati' month. The food counters are open from Friday to Saturday night.
More than 45 varieties of food are available for visitors. Food items like Pathradde, Kanile Gasi, Pelakai Gatti, Thekkareda Adde, Kaithadye, Kori Roti, Semedadde, Thekkareda Adde, Tevu Tetla, Balyar Chatny, Kudutha Chatni, Semige Peru, Gendada Adye, Etti Sukka, Recche Chatny, Kori Sukka, Tujenk Pelatari and sweets are highly in demand in counters.
Steevan Monteiro, from Muscat who is in Mangalore on holiday said that though he was born in Mangalore he was not aware of the food culture of Mangalore.
"Since I live in Muscat it is a memorable moment. I got chance to taste real taste of my home land. It is a whole new experience for my kids to have authentic food like dosas, pundi, parode etc as against their staple food such pizza, burgers etc," he said.

Melkar, Dec 17: The 17th Annual Day and Graduation Ceremony of Melkar Women’s PU and Degree College, themed “Fusion-2K25,” was celebrated with dignity and enthusiasm, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s academic journey. The programme reflected the college’s steadfast commitment to academic excellence, character building, and the holistic development of students.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Asif Mohammed, whose presence greatly enriched the occasion. The celebration was further graced by the chief guests Mr. P. B. Ahmed Mudassir and Mr. Nissar Fakeer Mohammed, along with the distinguished guests of honour Mr. B. A. Nazeer and Mr. Ibrahim Gadiyar. In their inspiring addresses, the guests encouraged the graduating students and appreciated the dedicated efforts of the management, faculty, and students.

The annual report was presented by the Principal, Mr. Abdul Majeed S, highlighting the institution’s academic progress, notable achievements, and extracurricular accomplishments during the academic year.

The presidential address was delivered by the esteemed Chairman of Melkar Women’s PU and Degree College, Dr. Haji S. M. Rasheed, who emphasized the vital role of education in empowering women and shaping responsible citizens. He also stressed the importance of discipline, dedication, and perseverance in achieving success.

Cultural programmes and academic recognitions formed an integral part of the celebration, showcasing the talents and achievements of the students. The graduation ceremony was a proud moment for the outgoing students as they were formally conferred degrees and wished success in their future endeavours.

Ms. Mashmooma Fathima served as the Master of Ceremonies. The welcome address was delivered by Ms. Fathima Nida, and the programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Ayisha Suhana.

The event successfully achieved its objectives and was highly appreciated by the guests and attendees.
