Moodbidri, Aug 14: The alert local youth of Mariyadi village have set an example by nabbing one of the two young men who were involved in cheating the people in the name of polishing gold ornaments.

It is said that two youth from Bihar had been roaming in Mariyadi area, claiming to polish gold.

With bag on their back, the duo has visited the house of one Chennappa in Mariyadi village. Since Chennappa was at home, the two resorted to polishing some bronze and brass vessels. Since the duo was on a look out for houses without men, they left the house of Chennappa, without seeking the women to bring their gold ornaments for polishing.

The next house that they visited was a convenient one for them because here a young lady was living with her aunt. The men started off polishing the toe ring for the woman to take her into confidence.

The lady who was happy with the work gave her gold chain for polishing. The youth who cleaned the chain handed over a paper pack to the lady and said that the chain has been put in the pack, which is to be opened only after half an hour.

The lady was suspicious and she immediately opened the pack. She found a broken chain in the pack. She started screaming for help and within no time the local youth gathered and nabbed one of the persons at Marnadu. His accomplice managed to escape.

The arrested is Anand from Bihar. The police have confiscated gold from him. It is said that the solution that the duo used for cleaning may give out gold on processing.

Mangaluru: Public transport in Mangaluru is set for a state-led transformation as the government moves to deploy 100 new electric govt buses to replace unreliable private services. The initiative aims to provide a dependable alternative to private operators who have been frequently "cutting trips," leaving thousands of commuters stranded.

The announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner and MCC Administrator Darshan HV during a public phone-in session. The move specifically targets routes where private bus service has become erratic, ensuring that citizens no longer have to rely on a fluctuating private sector for their daily commute.

Restoring the Govt Presence

The transport crisis was brought to the forefront by Ramayya, a resident of Bajal, who highlighted a growing trend of private buses skipping morning and night trips. With the previous KSRTC (govt) services discontinued, residents have been left without a fallback option.

To fix this, the DC confirmed that the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme will bring 100 government-owned electric buses to the city:

•    Phased Deployment: The first 50 of the new 100 government buses are scheduled to arrive by March 2026.

•    State Infrastructure: Two new government depots, including one at Mudipu, are being prepared for operations.

•    Recruitment: The state has already begun training a new batch of government bus drivers to ensure the fleet is operational the moment it arrives.
