It is said that on Tuesday at about 3.30 pm, a group of youth was seen having gala time bathing in the sea, at Mogaveerapatna.

Nazeer and Ashfaq sitting on the shore were taken by surprise when out of the sudden the group of youth who were bathing approached them and scolded them using abusive language.

They abruptly pulled out a club and attacked the two severely.

Ashfaq suffered severe head injury while Nazeer earned wounds on hands and legs.

Ullal police rushed to the spot but by then the gang had fled the scene. The news spread like wild fire and soon a huge crowd gathered outside a private hospital at Thokkottu where the two were admitted.

Retaliation

A gang of three which was waiting to give a reply to the attack, assaulted Lathesh and Shahaan using bottles as the two were returning from job, at Bastipadpu.

This added to the tension in the region.

When the two were admitted to a hospital in Thokkottu, there broke out an altercation between the mob that had gathered outside the hospital with regard to both attacks.

Ullal police had to resort to lathi-charge to disperse the mob.

Plunge into sea

It is said that in the Mogaveerapatna attack, one of the attackers plunged into the sea to escape the police. The attacker wore a swimming tube that was placed at the shore and in a bid to escape the police, he plunged into sea with the swimming tube on while the police only watched him escape helplessly.

He swam his way for several miles and then boarded a boat that was sailing to Bengre.

While the police successfully passed on the information, the cops could not nab him even at Bengre.

However, the two attacked in the second attack were innocent as they had no clue about the first attack. They were returning home from duty as usual when a gang assaulted them without any reason or fault of theirs.

The situation remains to be tense in and around Ullal area.
