
Shetty had published an advertisement in dailies citing that he is a divorcee and would like to seek marriage alliance with either widow or divorcee. With this advertisement, he had got in touch with several women wanting to make a new beginning. In this manner he had developed closeness with several women.
Most of the women who had fallen for him had given their gold and cash thinking that he will marry them someday soon.
However, his game of making easy money came to an end when he trapped a woman from Mangalore. He had gained the number of this woman through a marriage bureau. Soon he developed friendship with the lady.
One day, he took the lady out on a trip to Murudeshwar and Kollur and on their way back he took her to Dhoomavathikatte at Adyar and proposed to get married there. He told the lady that he would circumambulate at the 'Katte' first and she would have to do the same after him. However, when the lady started to take the 'pradakshina' the 'man' fled the place with her bag which had over 400 gms of gold in it.
She informed the same to the police who instantly held a 'nakabandi' to nab the thief. He was finally nabbed at Pachchanady.
