Mangalore, Aug 27: Legal profession is not only fighting for justice in the court of law, it is only fighting for dharma in the reality of life, said Dharmadhikari of Shree Kshethra Dharmasthala Dr D Veerendra Heggade.

Speaking at the inauguration of the student council of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara (SDM) Law College, Mangalore, on Tuesday, he said that many times, religion made way for separation. “However, the Constitution should be your supreme god. Stand above all differences such as caste and creed in the legal profession,” he said, adding that everyone was equal before law.

Alumni of the institution Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader and Udupi City Corporation Commissioner K Shrikanth Rao were felicitated on the occasion.

Speaking after the felicitation, Mr Khader said that awareness of the law was extremely necessary for everyone in today's world. “The country can be made strong only if students in classrooms and playgrounds are empowered. Utilise the opportunities you get in colleges and educational institutions to the fullest extent. While others may criticise you, your parents and teachers are the ones who correct you if you go wrong. Use their guidance as foundation to move forward in life towards your goals,” he told the students.

In his presidential address, Vice Chancellor of Kuvempu University Prof S A Bari said that academics and concerns were the combination to ensure a healthy society. “Education, health, social concerns and a good government are instrumental for good governance in a country. This country needs you; you are the future of the country. When the entire world is going to grow old, India is going to grow young, as most Indians will be in the age group of 30-35 years by the year 2020, which is the most productive age group,” he said.

Staff advisor T Vidyashankar administered the oath to members of the student council. Mr Shrikanth Rao also spoke during the programme.

President of the student council Anish Krishna welcomed the gathering. Principal of the institution Dr B K Ravindra was present.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
