Fr J C Moraes of Mangalore Diocese dies

Mangalore, Aug 27: Rev Fr Joseph Charles known as Fr J C Moraes who was a priest of the Diocese of Mangalore passed away on Monday in a private hospital in Mangalore due to brain haemorrhage. He was 72. He served as priest for 46 years.

Bishop of Mangalore Most Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, Msgr Denis Prabhu the Vicar General and Chancellor V Rev Fr Henry Sequeira of the Diocese of Mangalore have condoled his death.

He was born at Agrar Parish on September 18, 1941. He was one of eight children of Antony John Moraes and Esperence Pinto. While two of his sisters are Apostolic Carmel nun and one sister is a Cloistered nun.

After having joined St Joseph's Seminary, Mangalore on June, 30 1959 and after the priestly studies, he was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Mangalore on the December 4, 1967.

He was the Assistant Parish Priest of Bajpe, Belman and Cathedral. He was the Parish Priest of Nidpally, Narampady, Tallur, Pernal, Kateel and Kumbla Parishes. As socius he rendered spiritual ministry at Anjelore, Bondel and Urwa Parishes. He also served as Chaplain of Olavinahally Convent and has rendered spiritual ministry in the Diocese of Bombay.

Because of health reasons he voluntarily retired from the active priestly ministry in 1995. As retired priest he was residing at Vianney Home, retired priests' home of the Diocese of Mangalore at Kankanady.

According to Msgr Denis Prabhu the Vicar General of the Diocese of Mangalore 'Fr J.C. Moraes had lot of eagerness to learn whatever is knew and keep oneself abreast with the times. He was active in his thinking movements and actions all through.'

According to Fr Vijay Victor Lobo the Director of Sandesha 'Fr Moraes was the senior most student of Western music at Sandesha. He had great desire to learn.'

Fr Moraes wanted to share whatever he learnt, what is relevant to the times. He was helping people to learn about facing interviews, joyful living, communication skills and spoken English.

Melkar, Dec 17: The 17th Annual Day and Graduation Ceremony of Melkar Women’s PU and Degree College, themed “Fusion-2K25,” was celebrated with dignity and enthusiasm, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s academic journey. The programme reflected the college’s steadfast commitment to academic excellence, character building, and the holistic development of students.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Asif Mohammed, whose presence greatly enriched the occasion. The celebration was further graced by the chief guests Mr. P. B. Ahmed Mudassir and Mr. Nissar Fakeer Mohammed, along with the distinguished guests of honour Mr. B. A. Nazeer and Mr. Ibrahim Gadiyar. The annual report was presented by the Principal, Mr. Abdul Majeed S, highlighting the institution’s academic progress, notable achievements, and extracurricular accomplishments during the academic year.

The presidential address was delivered by the esteemed Chairman of Melkar Women’s PU and Degree College, Dr. Haji S. M. Rasheed, who emphasized the vital role of education in empowering women and shaping responsible citizens. He also stressed the importance of discipline, dedication, and perseverance in achieving success.

Cultural programmes and academic recognitions formed an integral part of the celebration, showcasing the talents and achievements of the students. The graduation ceremony was a proud moment for the outgoing students as they were formally conferred degrees and wished success in their future endeavours.

Ms. Mashmooma Fathima served as the Master of Ceremonies. The welcome address was delivered by Ms. Fathima Nida, and the programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Ayisha Suhana.

The event successfully achieved its objectives and was highly appreciated by the guests and attendees.
