Bangalore, Sep 27: Thirty-four people escaped with minor injuries on Thursday when a college bus in which they were travelling rammed into a tree and turned upside down near Chennasandra junction, under the jurisdiction of the Kengeri traffic police.
The injured included students, teaching and non-teaching staff of JSS Academy of Technical Education, Kengeri. The injured were rushed to BGS?Global?Hospital where 31 people were treated at outpatient department. Three others are stated to be out of danger. Rash driving and alleged brake failure caused the accident, said the police.
The college bus was near its destination at Mylasandra on Uttarahalli Main Road when the accident occurred at 8:55 am. The bus was about 100 metres from the campus. Driver Ramesh took a right from Chennasandra junction to Uttarahalli Main Road. He lost control over the vehicle, which rammed into a tree.
“I was preparing to alight as we were about to enter the campus when things went out of control,” Latha, a faculty with the electronics department said.
“Probably, brakes failed once the driver took a turn at the junction.
He realised it immediately and switched off the engine. Even then, the bus kept moving. He drove off the road to avert collision with any vehicle coming from the opposite direction,” she said.
“We were fortunate as no vehicle was coming from the opposite direction.?Students and staff informed the hospital. A couple of ambulances were sent,” Latha, who sustained bruises on her hand, added.
